About the Journal
Aims
The Journal of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering (JWREE; E-ISSN: [xxxx-xxxx]) is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access journal published by Thuyloi University (TLU), Hanoi, Vietnam. It publishes original research, review articles, and applied or case studies that advance the science, engineering and management of water and its interactions with the environment, natural hazards and a changing climate.
The journal encourages multidisciplinary work that combines engineering, natural sciences, data science, and social, economic and policy perspectives. It welcomes theoretical, mathematical, numerical, experimental and field-based approaches, as well as innovations in practice. It aims to connect researchers, engineers, planners and policymakers, with particular attention to the water, disaster and environmental challenges of river basins, deltas and coasts in Vietnam, Southeast Asia and other regions.
Scope
Topics include, but are not limited to:
- Water resources planning and management: integrated river basin management, water allocation, irrigation and agricultural water use, water governance, economics and policy.
- Hydrology and hydrological and hydraulic modelling: surface water and groundwater, rainfall–runoff, flow and sediment transport, data-driven and AI-based modelling, remote sensing and monitoring.
- Disaster risk and resilience: floods, droughts, saline intrusion, landslides, storms and cascading hazards; forecasting, early warning, risk assessment, preparedness and community resilience.
- Climate change impacts and adaptation: effects on water systems and infrastructure, adaptation and mitigation strategies, nature-based solutions.
- Coastal, estuarine and river engineering: morphology, erosion and deposition, sea-level rise, coastal protection.
- Hydraulic structures and water infrastructure: dams, reservoirs, embankments, pumping stations, safety, operation and maintenance, and the structural, geotechnical and materials aspects of water-related infrastructure, including drainage and water-related transport infrastructure.
- Water quality and environmental engineering: chemistry and biology of water, pollution control, urban water, water and wastewater treatment, solid waste, water reuse.
- Ecosystems and environmental sustainability: aquatic ecology, ecosystem restoration, water–energy–food nexus, sustainability assessment.
- Smart water technologies and decision support: sensors, digital twins, optimisation, geospatial tools.
- Water–energy nexus and electrical systems: hydropower and pumped storage; renewable energy integration with water infrastructure; energy-efficient pumping and treatment; power supply and microgrids for irrigation and water systems; automation, SCADA and real-time control; sensors, IoT and instrumentation for hydrological, environmental and structural monitoring; resilience of energy and water systems to natural hazards and climate change.
Article types: original research articles, review articles, technical notes and case studies.
Audience: researchers, engineers, practitioners, policymakers and graduate students in water resources, environmental, civil and disaster-risk fields.

Peer Review
All research articles undergo double-blind peer review. Each submission is first screened by the editors for relevance to the journal’s scope, originality and compliance with the author guidelines. Manuscripts that pass this screening are evaluated by at least two independent reviewers with expertise in the field. The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief on the basis of the reviewers’ reports.
Open Access Policy
JWREE is an open-access journal. All articles are freely available online immediately upon publication, without subscription or registration, to support the global exchange of knowledge. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) licence.
Publication Fees
JWREE does not charge authors any fees. There are no submission fees, no peer review fees and no article processing charges (APCs). All costs of publication are covered by Thuyloi University.
Publication Ethics
JWREE is committed to maintaining the highest standards of ethics in scientific publishing, in accordance with the laws of Vietnam on the press and scientific publishing and with Thuyloi University’s regulations on academic integrity.
